Error: This monitor already exists on another location

If you see this message:

Error. This monitor already exists on location xxx on place xxx. Please unlink this monitor first in the dashboard.

it means your AirGradient monitor is already registered in another dashboard location.

Why this happens

Each AirGradient monitor can only be linked to one dashboard at a time.
Before adding it to a new location or account, it must first be removed from the previous one.

How to fix it

You need to unlink the monitor from the existing dashboard first.

Steps

  1. Open the AirGradient Dashboard
  2. Go to Hardware
  3. Find the monitor listed in the error message
  4. Click the Admin (gear) icon
  5. Select Edit Monitor
  6. Click Delete

After that, you can register the monitor again in your new dashboard or new location.

Important: Your old data

You do not need to delete the whole location if you want to keep historical data.

Deleting only the monitor removes the device assignment, while the location and past readings can remain.

If you no longer need the old location, you can delete it in Locations > Admin > Edit Location > Delete

If you no longer have access to the old dashboard, contact AirGradient support and share your monitor serial number.
